According to Parish, approximately 80 people went through the escape room. The outreach event was purposely scheduled on a Tuesday night so it wouldn’t compete with extracurricular activities. She notes 12–15 volunteers helped put clues together and dressed up in Bible-period-specific costumes for the various scenes. When participants finished the escape room, they were able to take pictures with these characters. The church then provided pizza for everyone.
Based on the response to this year’s event, the church is already working on developing an escape room for next year. Parish encourages other churches to consider doing an outreach like this one.
“Sometimes it’s hard to think out[side] of the box, but as long as you are staying true to telling the story of Jesus, stay true to that and be creative,” she recommends. “It’s a great opportunity to reach families with the gospel, and it was one of the easiest events we have put together.”
