Helping the Needy

Bishop Ross Jackson and his congregation at West Falls Christian Community Church in Mt. Airy, Md., are becoming proactive in their efforts to help people in their community get through the current economic downturn.

This year, the church has changed the name of its eight-year-old, faith-based community event to Mt. Airy Restoration and, for the first time, is focusing the event on donations for the needy. Food, entertainment and children’s activities are planned throughout the Aug. 15 daylong festival, and a nonperishable donation is the only cost to attend.

To reach people in need who may be too proud to ask for help or who don’t know where to go to find it, Jackson and West Falls attendees also have gone door-to-door to learn what needs exist.
