Hope Was Born

On a quiet night in darkened days,
When hope was a dream, fading from thought,
Angels stirred in a starry sky
And all at once hope was born.

Who could imagine God as a child,
Infant Creator, nurtured and held?
Fathomless, eternal wonder!
Yet all at once, hope was born.

Immanuel, God with us!
We are never forsaken,
We are never alone.
Immanuel, God with us!
Hope was born in him.

The years slip away, centuries pass;
What can diminish that newborn’s touch?
One still night and everything changed
When once for all, hope was born.

Immanuel, God with us!
We are never forsaken,
We are never alone.
Immanuel, God with us!
Hope was born in him.
