Launch an ESL or Adult Literacy Program

A staggering amount of adults in the US cannot read or speak English at a proficient level. Combat this issue by providing English-as-a-Second Language and adult literacy programs at your church. Spread the word a few weeks in advance of the launch by passing out fliers in the community and telling church members to spread the word. Purchase easy-to-use curriculum (preferably with teacher instruction manuals included) and gain permission from the publisher to make photocopies of the lessons. Host the classes one night a week and offer them for free, if possible. Ask volunteers to commit to a 6-week period of teaching and split the students into groups based on proficiency.
