By Jay Y. Kim

WHO: Jay Y. Kim, lead pastor of teaching at WestGate Church and teacher-in-residence at Vintage Faith Church.

HE SAYS: “We often fail to consider not only what these [digital] tools are doing for us but, more importantly, how these tools are forming us.”

THE BIG IDEA: This book explores the ways the digital age and its values are affecting Christian discipleship and explores the Fruit of the Spirit to find solutions in how we can pursue contentment.

THE PROGRESSION: In Part 1, “Cultivating Contentment,” the author examines how the digital age keeps us scrolling and wonders what the cost will be. In Part 2, “Cultivating Resilience,” he looks at patience and slowing life down. “Cultivating Wisdom” wraps up the book with a talk about faith and wisdom.

“We’ve come to realize our screens are not open doors but mirrors turning us away from others and toward ourselves.”

The Better Bread

Picture a flock of sheep in a green pasture. What do they normally do there? They eat. When a sheep lies down in a green pasture it can only mean one thing: he’s full. In fact, he’s so full that he has no more desire to eat and lies down.

Silencing Antagonists

Skillful leaders demonstrate compassion toward the antagonist knowing that there was likely something in their past that has caused them to live an angry, defensive life.

A Long Walk to Jesus

Someone who had been family by blood became family through the blood of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
