Derwin L. Gray is the co-founding and lead pastor of Transformation Church in South Carolina. He also is the author of How to Heal Our Racial Divide (Tyndale Momentum).
The apostle Paul, a missional-pastoral leader, says it this way: “He made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he purposed in Christ as a plan for the right time—to bring everything together in Christ, both things in heaven and things on earth in him” (Eph. 1:9–10).
American pulpits and some discipleship strategies have often reduced the magnificence of the gospel to simply to a trip to heaven when we die or only the forgiveness of sins.
Racism and racial injustice are sins so deeply embedded in our culture that it is going to require disciples of Jesus who thoroughly rely on the Holy Spirit and who passionately inhabit Jesus’ love to change things.
