How Churches Can Measure What Really Matters

Name Your Scoreboard. 

Your people will play where the scoreboard is clearest. So make sure your transformation scoreboard is as important as your activity scoreboard. Let’s continue to celebrate attendance, but let’s also celebrate discipleship and living on mission just as loudly. 

Engagement still matters. Programs still matter. But they take their rightful place on the scoreboard as means, not ends. Leaders don’t just ask, “How do we get more people in the room?” and start asking the powerful second question, “How do we form disciple makers who live on mission?”

Jesus said we are to go and make disciples. Those words were never meant to be a slogan on a wall. They were meant to be the scoreboard on your field.

Every church is measuring something. The question is whether it’s the right something. Is your church measuring what he asked for? Because your measurement system isn’t just tracking your church. It is shaping it.
