WHO: Davey Blackburn, author and speaker.

HE SAYS: “At every turn of the page you’ll find that pain and suffering is an inseparable and inescapable part of this life. And yet you’ll also find he’s right there inviting you into a redemption story.”

THE BIG IDEA: This true story helps readers see that even in the midst of the greatest losses, God is inviting us on a path toward redemption and healing, hope and faith.

THE PROGRESSION: In five parts divided into 22 chapters, the author takes readers on a personal and raw journey as he recounts dealing with the aftermath of the murder of his pregnant wife, and what he learned about trauma and tragedy as well as God’s goodness and faithfulness.

“Often we look at our tragedy and pain as an interruption to our story, but God sees it as something else, an invitation into a greater story—his story.”

Gene Appel: Do Less Ministry; Reach More People

None of the programs at our church were bad in and of themselves. The volume of it just prevented us from being focused on building relationships with those who are far from God. So, we had to do less ministry to reach more people. It sounds funny, but people had to be trained in how to do life with nonbelievers or people spiritually disinterested.

When Familiar Becomes Careless

God wants to be in a relationship with his people that’s not marked by fear but love. Not apprehension, but an appreciation of his great grace and compassion.
