Strengthen Your Heart as a Leader

Every Sunday for a number of years now, I have offered to my readers a “Word of Encouragement” for beginning the Lord’s Day. If you need encouragement today, here are 7 of those words from previous years – maybe one will strengthen your heart today.

  1. 1 Samuel 17:43  “He [Goliath the giant] said to David, ‘Am I a dog that you come against me with sticks?’ Then he cursed David by his gods.”  You know the rest of the story. Goliath may have called on his gods, but he wasted his breath. There is no match for the God you serve today.
  2. Isaiah 46:3  “Listen to Me, house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been sustained from the womb, carried along since birth. I will be the same until your old age, and I will bear you up when you turn gray. I have made you, and I will carry you; I will bear and save you.” From your birth to your old age, God takes care of you. No matter how heavy your responsibilities are today, He who made you will strengthen you through the day. In fact, God carries you.
  3. Philemon 7  “For I have great joy and encouragement from your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.”  Just as Paul said these words about Philemon, may others say the same about you. I have prayed this morning that the ministry and service of all my readers will refresh the saints.
  4. Psalm 145:17-18   “The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all his acts. The Lord is near all who call out to him, all who call out to him with integrity.”  With a heart of integrity, call out to God today. He will be faithful in all He does.
  5. 3 John 3  “For I was very glad when fellow believers came and testified to your fidelity to the truth—how you are walking in truth.”  Just as John spoke of the good word of Gaius’ life, may the believers in your life today speak of how you are walking in–and teaching–the truth.
  6. Jeremiah 1:5  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”  This verse is actually quite amazing. Before God ever made you, He knew you – and He knew you’d be teaching His Word and leading His people today. Do your work well today for His glory.
  7. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17  “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.”  May your heart dwell on this word as you prepare to lead God’s people today.

Hearing God

But imagine this. What if you had a handwritten note sent to you from God? Would you carry it around in your pocket for a couple of weeks and open it when you got around to it?
